After several group classes, I felt I needed more specialized instruction to strengthen and maximize my potential on both the paralyzed and non-paralized sides of my body. I’m now getting more out of my practice and, with Sharon’s specialized instruction, I can modify poses on my own. I approached Sharon for help with yoga. She designed props and a practice that has improved my life.
The Yoga Groove
I love yoga! Especially “Gentle/Therapeutic Yoga,” which changed my life.
After I suffered a repetitive use injury, I discovered the therapeutic benefits of yoga, which then inspired me to become a registered yoga teacher. I hold the designation of registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and I am currently studying with medical doctor Ganesh Mohan, and yoga therapy teacher Douglas Keller. I also have a Masters in Health and Physical Education and a second Masters in Special Education. I have taught for over 26 years.
Those are some of my qualifications, but even though I have a passion for yoga, yoga is only part of who I am.
Here are some lesser known bits about this person with whom you will be working.
Born on a Saturday and as the saying goes, “Saturday’s child works for a living!” Some of my work has included teaching at a Fred Astaire studio when I was a teenager, telephone solicitor, business college recruiter, factory line worker, restaurant hostess, lifeguard, model, shoe salesperson, food sales rep … quite a few life lessons!
Cats are one of my great loves! My childhood kitten was a Christmas present from my grandfather. All of my other cats have been rescues, including cats named Poop, Fuzzy, Gulliver, Jenny-fur, Wini-fur and Tucker. My current loves are Nikki and Lucy-Fur… along with my husband, Jim.
- Hyde Park is where I reside.
- I am a “Vata” who keeps busy with many things simultaneously.
- Taking myself too seriously is not an option!
- My favorite yoga studio is The Yoga Groove!!!
Reasons To Try The Yoga Groove
Ideal for beginners or those with health concerns…
Most people want to participate in some form of physical movement as part of their yoga practice, however people who are sedentary, who are carrying excess weight or are dealing with health issues or physical restrictions are often concerned that traditional yoga classes may not be right for them.
Classes at The Yoga Groove offer restorative, gentle yoga practices that are ideal for beginners or those with health concerns. Sharon’s expertise in the areas of Health & Women’s Fitness and Specific Learning Disabilities, along with her training in the Svastha and Ayurveda program of study according to Krishnamacharya, enables her to modify postures for the needs of each individual. Props are frequently used or created to support students in their physical movements, and most poses can be done with very little weight bearing or strain on muscles, joints or connective tissues.
What People Say About The Yoga Groove
I’ve been going to Sharon’s yoga classes for a few years now – I don’t like missing them. I go in exhausted, and come out feeling reinvigorated. In the summertime, my son Isaac has private sessions with Sharon. He is ten, and has Down syndrome. He is always excited about coming to yoga class. Sharon’s expertise has really helped him, especially with his balance. Sharon is an important part of our therapy team, both Isaac’s, and mine.

Sharon changed the trajectory of my life. I was overweight, out of shape and suffering from a serious, permanent back injury. The worst part was that I was beginning to accept that there was no chance for change. In a moment of energy, I contacted Sharon and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Without punishing my ego, Sharon gently led me to a path of regular, therapeutic yoga which significantly changed my health and my attitude. Now, almost 3 months later, my health and mobility has improved greatly. My whole attitude towards eating and exercise has changed. The best part was that Sharon made the whole evolution fun and enjoyable. It feels so good to be in charge of my body again! Sometimes people can really change your life and that is what Sharon did for me. I would highly recommend both her private and group classes (a wonderful group of women!). She really knows how to take you on a wonderful journey to better health and mobility and, best of all, feeling better about yourself! It is so much more than just yoga.
