About Sharon Byrnes
ABOUT SHARON BYRNES
I love yoga! Especially “Gentle/Therapeutic Yoga,” which changed my life.
After I suffered a repetitive use injury, I discovered the therapeutic benefits of yoga, which then inspired me to become a registered yoga teacher. I hold the
designation of Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and I am certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. I also serve as an
“Accessible Yoga Ambassador”. I am a teaching facility member of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda with doctor Ganesh Mohan. I have a Masters in Health and Physical
Education and a second Masters in Special Education. I have taught for over 30 years.
The Yoga Groove is registered as an accredited teacher training school. Our workshops and programs qualify for continuing education credit with YA.
Those are some of my qualifications, but even though I have a passion for yoga, yoga is only part of who I am.
Here are some lesser-known bits about this person with whom you will be working.
Born on a Saturday and as the saying goes, “Saturday’s child works for a living!” Some of my work has included teaching at a Fred Astaire studio when I was a teenager,
telephone solicitor, business college recruiter, factory line worker, restaurant hostess, lifeguard, model, shoe salesperson, food sales rep … quite a few life lessons!
Cats are one of my great loves! My childhood kitten was a Christmas present from my grandfather. All of my other cats have been rescues, including cats named Poop,
Fuzzy, Gulliver, Jenny-fur, Wini-fur and Tucker. My current loves are Nikki and Lucy-Fur… along with my husband, Jim.

AYA- Accessible Yoga Ambassador with Jivana Heyman
Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda with Dr. Ganesh Mohan has been my chosen therapeutic yoga path. Svastha is a Sanskrit word for “Balance.” Bringing one’s self into balance leads to a more “Sattvic” or fulfilling life.
Ideal for beginners or those with health concerns…
Most people want to participate in some form of physical movement as part of their yoga practice, however people who are sedentary, who are carrying excess weight or are dealing with health issues or physical restrictions are often concerned that traditional yoga classes may not be right for them.
Classes at The Yoga Groove offer restorative, gentle yoga practices that are ideal for beginners or those with health concerns. Sharon’s expertise in the areas of Vibrant Aging, Health & Wellness, Adult Fitness and Specific Learning Disabilities, along with her training in the Svastha and Ayurveda program of study according to Krishnamacharya, enables her to modify postures for the needs of each individual. Props are frequently used or created to support students in their physical movements, and most poses can be done with very little weight bearing or strain on muscles, joints or connective tissues.
